Treating sweaty hands, feet and underarms

Cosmos Clinic is proud to be one of the only clinics
in Australia to offer Laser Sweat Ablation.

Sweaty underarms are a common problem affecting up to 3% of the population. Sweaty underarms often interfere with a patient's daily activities resulting in occupational, emotional, social, and physical implications. In the past, the surgical techniques on offer to address sweaty underarms have been too invasive or have a high recurrence rate leading to many people opting for less invasive options like purified protein injections. These treatments are highly effective but not permanent, lasting an average of 7 months.

Laser Sweat Ablation is a new technique that offers patients a permanent less invasive option for sweaty armpits. There is minimal discomfort and you can resume normal activities the same day. It is based on a infrared laser that generates heat to destroy the sweat glands and results in sweat-free armpits and an end to those socially awkward moments.

Excessive sweating of the underarm, face, hands, feet and groin can be effectively treated with an injectable muscle relaxing agent . The area to be treated is assessed for sweating before the injection of the muscle relaxing agent. Approximately 20 injections in each palm and armpit are required. A local anaesthetic  cream is used to reduce the pain. The results can last for up to a year and half.

* The above image illustrates the reduction in sweating 2 weeks after treatment, the black area indicates sweat. This techniques is known as the Starch Iodine test and is commonly used to measure the success of hyperhidrosis / excessive sweating procedures*

Excessive sweating of the armpits can also be treated with permanent removal of the sweat glands by the use of the body jet machine. The body jet is able to separate the sweat glands from the adjacent tissues, allowing for the permanent removal of the sweat glands from the skin. This procedure is done under a light sedation and you are able to return to work the following day.
